Professionals with Creative and Challenging Spirit
We hope that prospective and current students, academic and industrial colleagues and others will find our department an ideal place capable of providing every single opportunity to strive for their future.
Founded in 1965, the department has been committed to providing high quality education and research activities to promote the growth of petroleum and chemical industries. In response to the diversified challenges from many advanced chemical engineering fields, the scope has evolved over the years to encompass broader disciplines pertaining to nanotechnology, biotechnology, semiconuctor, energy and environment.

The department has to date 3,358 alumni including 345 M.S. and 55 Ph.D. graduates who have contributed to various fields in industries and also in the engineering infrastructure of Korea.
The department now geared to prepare for many different professional challenges of the 21st century by merging with the Department of Textile Engineering. The merger took place on 1 Mar 2009 after several years of close collaboration and discussion.
This merger placed the department as the largest chemical engineering program in Korea with 23 full-time tenure track faculty members and annual intake of more than 170 undergraduate students (with 40% of them females) of the highest calibre among all the engineering departments at SKKU.

Our graduate program is also highly reputed for its excellence in research and education with the provision of exquisite opportunities to couple core chemical engineering disciplines with multidiscibplinary ones, providing an ideal platform to train manpower of next generation well prepared for many complicated professional challenges in the academia and industry.
We run one of the 8 graduate programs under a special government funding scheme known as Brain Korea 21(BK21) since 2006. Furthermore, the average annual research expenditure per faculty member exceeds 5 million USD, among the top 5 in Korea, rendering the department equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure for world-class research and education.
Currently, more than 120 graduate students (with 30% from overseas) are actively conducting several research projects at the forefront of a variety of advanced chemical engineering and interdisciplinary fields in close collaboration with many domestic and international research institutions., We hope that prospective and current students, academic and industrial colleagues and others will find our department an ideal place capable of providing every single opportunity to strive for their future. Come to join us and be a part of the future today!
